A shopping I will go…

After spending a little too much time on Pinterest, I was in the mood to do a little shopping.  (Go figure!)  So, I dragged my hubby out with me to a couple of antique stores.  Both of them were closed on Mondays.  Arggghhh!  I had to go somewhere!  I needed to shop.  I was in the digging/sorting mood, so the best places I could hit in my current mood was Marshall’s and Ross.  I almost always find cute dishes at one of these places. I was right!  Look what inexpensive treasures I found.

Luck was with me that day.  All of these adorable bowls were separated and priced as individual items.  I can’t believe they were all still there for me find.

Next, was my trip to Marshall’s.  I found some pretty nifty goodies there too.

 

I haven’t come up with a purpose for these cute dotted bowls yet, but I did figure out what to do with my last find.

I’m going to replace the ribbon with something to match my sewing room and use it for a safety pin holder.  Cute eh?  Now, I just have to find the right ribbon…

Texas Rain

I love love love rain storms.  Unfortunately, Texas is in desperate need of rain this year.  So it’s extra exciting when we get it.  Especially in the daylight hours. (Most storms during monsoon come at night.)  So, of course my kids jumped at the chance to run go play in it.  I couldn’t say no.  I remember the joy and excitement I felt as a kid when my mom would let all the kids get soaked during a good storm. 

Even my eleven year old isn’t too old to get a little wet.

Don’t you love to watch toddlers run?  Especially when they are giggling and screaming because they are having so much fun.  I do.

Four patch baby quilt

I’m pretty excited to be showing you this adorable quilt for my new nephew.  He is almost two weeks old and I’m super excited to be living just two streets away so I can ooohh and aahhh over him as much as I like.  (Well almost, I have to compete with my daughters.)  I always find it a little harder to make quilts for boys, because there is just not the selection out there compared to the girl fabric available.  But, I found this great fabric (while in Utah, of course)  and I thought it would make a perfect boy quilt. 

I love making baby quilts.  It’s so satisfying to start and finish a quilt so quickly.  Then you get to give them away to sweet little babies for cuddling.  Sigh….

Starry Eyed Quilt Block

Have you ever finished the first quilt block of a quilt and loved it so much you couldn’t wait to finish the rest of the blocks?  Probably you have.  That is what has happened to me.  Again.   I don’t have another quilter in my house to be all excited with me, so you get to see block number one of the “Starry Eyed” quilt from Moda Bakeshop that I’ve been working on. 

Isn’t it great?  I love the fabrics Joanna Figueroa puts out.  I’m decorating my entire sewing room using these great colors.  Can’t wait to show you more.

It’s Christmastime! (Didn’t you know?)

Remember the Charlie Brown cartoon when they were walking through the department store around Halloween and the store had decorations and sales for ALL the holidays.  Y’know, Halloween next to Thanksgiving next to Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Easter.  Crazy!  Yet, that’s how I felt when I went to Hobby Lobby a few days ago.  There was a 4th of July clearance section next to two Halloween/Fall aisles and like eight Christmas aisles.  Really!  Maybe more. I couldn’t believe it.  Is Christmas early this year?  Is there a memo I didn’t get?  Lots of people do “Christmas in July”, which can be great fun.  But, Christmas in July, August, September, October, November, December and after Christmas sales in January and February. REALLY??

Now that my rant is over, I’ll tell you what this post is really about.   Pumpkin Cookies.  Today, my daughter asked for Pumpkin cookies and I thought, “why not?  Christmas is coming up soon.  I better start doing the fall thing and make pumpkin cookies.”  So, my daughter and her friend made these delicously, yummy cookies. I thought I would snap a few pictures to tempt you (and to help you get into the fall mindset, since Christmas is apparently right around the corner). 

They were as delicious as the looked.  Yummy!

My Short Attention Span

This must have been what it felt like to be two years old.  I can’t seem to focus on anything for more than 15 minutes at a time.  It could be that my kids have settled into summer and can’t seem to entertain themselves anymore.  It could be that I have guilt over sewing when my kids are home and the house is less than clean.  Or, (this is my favorite excuse) it could be because I have so many cute cute projects I’m working on, I can’t seem to settle on one.  Here is a brief glimpse at some of them.  Hopefully, I will be posting about some finished projects soon.

The first is a Moda Bake Shop project called Starry Eyed.  It is so stinkin’ cute.  I had been looking for a project to use my “Fresh Cotton” fabric on.  It calls for a layer cake and two charm packs.  Guess what I just happened to have?!

The second is a super cute, super easy retro quilt.  I picked up these fabulous fabrics while shopping at “Material Girls” in Utah a few weeks ago.  It calls for lots of appliqued dots.  I’ve never done that before. I’m a bit nervous, which is why I stopped mid project.  I’ll get back to it soon……ish..

This one is a secret, so I can’t tell you anything yet.  You will be seeing the entire finished quilt soon though.

Lastly, is this totally uninspiring photo of my “Wildflowers” quilt.  I cut it out right before my Utah holiday/fabric shopping trip and I’m having a hard time getting back to it now that I have all this new stuff to work on.  I’ve decided to leave it sitting out on my sewing table in plain view, so I will eventually feel guilty enough to get back to it.

Hopefully, I will have a few productive days and will be able to show some finished products, rather than lots of works in progress.  Stay tuned……

Ruby the elephant

My daughter loves elephants.  One of her favorite cartoons was Little Bill, who happened to love elephants.  Even his hamster was named “elephant”.    So now, we are slowly collecting.. guess what.  That’s right!  Elephants!!  So, while shopping in Utah last week at one of my favorite quilt shops,  I came across this adorable pattern.  Then my sister found the perfect fabric to go along with it..  It had to come home with me.  I still have enough of the fabric to make a little bag for her little collection of little elephants. 

I stuffed her with little plastic beads (instead of stuffing) and named her Ruby.  Cuz, I love the name and she has such cute red ears and tail.

I can’t wait for my daughter to wake up and see her new friend..
