What I’ve been up to…

The last few weeks have been pretty crazy!  I got sick for an entire week and for three of those days, I was in bed with a miserable head cold.  I have a hard time sitting and doing nothing, so I decided to start a stitchery I had seen recently by “A Bee in My Bonnet”.

I love it!  I’m turning it into a wall hanging, so I’ll post more pictures when I’m finished.

Just before I got sick, I finished my spring quilt top….

and started cutting out pieces for my next quilt…

Then we went on a mini vacation for the weekend.

Kids at the zoo

As soon as we got home, spring break started! So we played, watched movies, shopped and did some gardening.

It was great fun.  But, now back to real life and all my projects….

Riley Blake Quilt A Long - March

The March block is pretty easy!  It only took me 45 minutes and half that time was picking fabric.  I decided to go with the green colors for St. Patty’s Day.

I think it turned out pretty cute!

Pirate Quilt Ahoy!

Last summer, my son noticed he had only one quilt and all his sisters had two.  So, my cute little guy politely asked for another quilt.  How could I say no?  It took me awhile but I finally got it done!

Pirate Quilt

It’s not a bed size quilt.  In fact, it’s about a foot too short.  But he loves it so much, he took off his bedspread and put his new pirate quilt on.  I guess he likes it!

What boy wouldn’t like a pirate quilt?

Antique Quilt Show

I live in an area where there aren’t many quilters.  The closest quilt shop is a little over three hours away.  Therefore, I don’t have anywhere to go when I need a fabric fix.  So, when I learned there was going to be an antique quilt show at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Museum, I jumped at the chance go.  The museum has more than 80 quilts in their collection, but sadly only had 35 on display.  But, the quilts I saw were beautiful!  The oldest being more than 150 years old.

Everything there was hand quilted.

This Joseph’s Coat was my favorite…

Some of the quilts took over 20 years to make. (Like this Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt.)

They were just what I needed to get back into the quilting mood!

Riley Blake Quilt-A-Long February Block

I can’t say that applique is my favorite and I’m really not very good at it, but I finished my February block for the quilt a long.

February

I decided to add some aqua into my Christmas quilt, just to give it a little more pop.  I also decided to be a bit lazy and machine stitch the heart onto my background square.  I used the blanket stitch on my machine and I think it turned out pretty cute!

Let’s just hope I don’t have to do much more applique on the blocks to come….
